Somebody Stole My For Sale Sign

My weekend was filled with workouts (hike, yoga and free weights), work (wrote two offers and prepping another). I was feeling great about the productive weekend until I received a call from a neighbor of my luxury listing at 3130 Hermosa Beach.

“I see your sign is down. How much did the property sell for?”

“The property is available. Are you sure the sign is missing?”

“Yes. The sign was there yesterday and today it is gone.”

As soon as we confirmed the offers we wrote were in the hands of the listing agents, we hopped in the Mini Cooper and headed for Hermosa Beach with a spare sign. I was hoping the wind had blown it over, but no such luck. The aluminum sign and post were gone.

Fortunately, this is a high-end listing with security cameras and the sellers are reviewing tapes from the rather narrow window of time the sign disappeared. The seller knows it was still standing late Saturday afternoon and a resident on The Strand called me before noon on Sunday to report it missing.

This morning we will order a new luxury property for sale sign and wait for word from the sellers to see what was captured on the surveillance tapes.

Oh yes, the silver lining is the neighbor’s relative wants to see the spectacular luxury property with stunning ocean views only 70 steps from the sand. Perhaps I owe the thief a thank you for adding a luxury buyer to my client list.

Our offices are scattered all over the planet, and whether you walk in or phone in, there is usually an agent on call to answer your questions.   If you’re hoping for more than potluck, my suggestion is to ask trusted friends and family for recommendations. Especially if they recently completed a real estate sale or purchase.

 

Once you have a name or two, it’s time to do a little online shopping. Do a Google search on each agent of interest. Check out their website and online presence. Today’s agents need to use a mix of local and global marketing to reach buyers whether those buyers are next door, the next county or another country.

Does the beach ever have an off-season? My answer is no, as I can always think of a good reason to go for walk along the sand no matter what the month might be. Nine luxury homes sold in the Beach Cities (Hermosa and Manhattan) of the South Bay in November 2012.  Manhattan Beach recorded eight of the luxury sales over $2M for the month, but the highest sale ($3,950,000) occurred in Hermosa Beach.  Redondo Beach did not record any sales over $2M during November.

The priciest sale was a home located on The Strand in Hermosa Beach.  The oceanfront home was built in 1982 and sold for just over $1200 a sq. ft.
