Point Vicente Lighthouse in Rancho Palos Verdes

I’m not surprised there is a lighthouse located along the Palos Verdes coastline. It is notoriously rocky and I’m sure mariners appreciate the extra light as they navigate their way along the rocky coast. I am not often out on the water, but I do appreciate the coastal flavor it adds when I zip up and down Palos Verdes Drive South and Palos Verdes Drive West in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Point Vicente Lighthouse was manned until automated equipment was added in 1971. On November 17, 1979 Point Vicente Lighthouse was added to the National Registry of Historic Sites. Isn’t it nice to have a little piece of national history perched on the Palos Verdes bluffs above the Pacific Ocean?

The 94-acre parcel of vacant land that stretches along the bluff above Palos Verdes Drive South in Rancho Palos Verdes received the city’s Planning Commission’s blessing for a 9-hole golf course, an organic farm and possible future vineyard. 오, yes there will be new homes too! Ground breaking construction is set to begin this week.

The parcel, known as the Point View Tract, will also have an event garden and greenhouse. It sounds like an idyllic development and I already know the location is one of the most beautiful on the entire Palos Verdes Peninsula. It is just minutes from Terranea Resort and Trump National Golf Course as both facilities are located along Palos Verdes Drive South in Rancho Palos Verdes. It has stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, the craggy coastline, and as the name states, 카탈리 나 섬.

I cant wait to witness the unfolding of what is sure to be another glorious place to reside on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

True, the homes began life in Palos Verdes as look-alike production homes, but during the ensuing decade many are emerging with styles and designs quite unlike their next door neighbor. The landscaping is maturing giving better balance and beauty to an enclave of estate-size homes. The development no longer appears out-of-place in Palos Verdes. It has earned its place along the coveted coastal acreage of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

The Cliffs of Lunada Bay in Palos Verdes Estates

Five Palos Verdes luxury homes priced at $2,000,000 or more sold during the month of November 2012. Palos Verdes Estates recorded four luxury home sales and Rancho Palos Verdes recorded one luxury sale. There were no luxury home sales in Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates during the month of November.

The highest price paid was $5,000,000 for a stunning contemporary home perched on the ocean bluff in lower Lunada Bay in Palos Verdes Estates. The 5 침실, 6 bath home exuded architectural style and had a stunning ocean, cliffs and whitewater view.

As of December 5, 2012 593 single family homes in Palos Verdes closed escrow per the MLS. The highest sale was $7,000,000 for a gated equestrian estate in Rolling Hills. The lowest price paid was $426,000 용 741 제곱. 피트. fixer in the Eastview neighborhood of Rancho Palos Verdes.

So there you have it–prices in Palos Verdes range from the low $400K to $7M for single family homes with 591 sales falling somewhere in between. Banish the thought there is not a house for you in Palos Verdes!

Water Views around Palos Verdes California

The cliffs of Palos Verdes are great for whale watching.

The whales are heading south to Mexico and their internal GPS guides them past the Palos Verdes Peninsula as they cruise along the California coastline.

“The gray whale migration is one of the longest known to man, averaging 10,000-14,000 miles round-trip between the Bering and Chukchi seas to the Baja California lagoons. The 30- to 40-ton baleen whales can grow up to 50 feet in length.

Whales migrating south to Baja California normally start passing the Palos Verdes Peninsula near the end of November…” per an article in Palos Verdes Patch.

I often hike the trails at Trump National and many of them cling close to the jagged bluffs of the Pacific Ocean. The elevated vantage point allows me to catch an infrequent glimpse of whales as they near the end of this endurance swim. It always feels like a special gift.

There are whale watching excursions and I often see the boats waiting for a magical moment just off shore. I’ve never taken a boat tour as I much prefer to power hike the hills and wonder if I will receive a wonderful gift from the migrating whales while on my morning walk.
