Will Millennials Buy Boomers’ Big Houses?

Since I make it a habit of following real estate trends, I've been wondering who will buy the baby boomers' big houses when it's time for them to downsize.  I'm sure you've seen trending articles stating Millennials do not want the family china, antiques, and other stuff filling their parents' home. The big question is, will they want to move into the family home, or purchase one of their choosing? Perhaps smaller and closer to the urban center--time will tell. The giant boomer generation owns two out of every five homes in the United States. Let that statistic sink in [...]

Last week's triple-digit heat wave reminded me how thankful I am to live in a coastal community. I don't know about other agents, but my client and I braved the weekend heat wave and toured several Palos Verdes homes for sale. Weather rarely deters a determined buyer (and their agent), but temperatures in the 90s, an unrelenting sun, and houses with no air-conditioning did call for several bottles of water and a shade break or two.  :) The luxury home market is experiencing increased inventory and shrinking sales. There are 65 Palos Verdes luxury homes priced over $3,000,000 listed for sale [...]

The single-family residential real estate market on the Palos Verdes Peninsula continues to maintain its firm grasp on a seller's market, even with a slight growth in inventory since last month's report. Demand continues to keep the supply in check. Timing plays a vital role in real estate, and this is the time of year buyers yearn to make a move to their neighborhood of choice. Fortunately, Palos Verdes buyers have a few more options with the increased supply, and sellers usually have more showings during the spring and summer months. However, a well-appointed and well-priced home will attract [...]

Will you miss this window of opportunity to sell your Palos Verdes property? Is now a good time to sell my Palos Verdes home? I'll let the numbers do the talking.  :)  You be the judge and let me know what you conclude. Palos Verdes market snapshots for April 2018: During a recent conversation with a mortgage broker who was purchasing one of my listings, he commented he was advising "everyone" to sell now. Inventory is low; prices have more than recovered from the recession a decade ago. I will add real estate tends to rise and [...]

The weather today is hotter than the single-family residential market on the Palos Verdes Peninsula--and that's hot! Thanks to Santa Ana winds and a longtime smoldering seller's market both fall into the "hot" category. How long either will last is hard to predict, but one thing I'm certain of is neither one will last forever. Notice the "Little Yellow Dot" indicates the heat of the seller's market is intensifying as we enter the spring and summer selling seasons. Most people prefer to move during the summer, especially if they have children in school. Let's review other sub-markets within [...]
