Hermosa Pier Sunset

Rain in June is not the norm for Southern California, but this morning a light rain was falling when I walked Faye, my spunky little Chihuahua.  The air was filled with the scent of petrichor. That’s the new word I recently added to my vocabulary as it means the smell of rain on the dry earth–and we certainly have plenty of dry earth in the South Bay of Los Angeles due to our relentless drought.  The origin of the word is Greek and is a combo of the words for “stone” and “blood of the gods.”  Very fitting description for those raindrops falling onto our hard as a stone and thirsty soil, and the scent was certainly heavenly as well.

One of the positives of living in Hermosa Beach is lot sizes tend to be small, and that means a smaller yard to maintain and water and more time to enjoy the Pacific Ocean and the beach lifestyle so prevalent in the Beach Cities of Los Angeles.  A patio or courtyard may be all the private space needed when there’s a huge “playground” in your back yard!

I recently read Los Angeles is slated to be the next great global city.  In my opinion it already is.  The weather, the light and the coastal location are hard to top. Add the charm and lifestyle of a place like Hermosa Beach and you may think you just landed in paradise.
